Needle Felting is the ancient art of making fabric from wool or other fiber
by matting the fibers together. Wool fibers are covered with
microscopic scales. When pressure, moisture and heat are applied
to them, the scales grab together-- thus forming a solid fabric.
The more pressure that is applied, the more firm the felt becomes.
In traditional felting, layers of wool are placed in varying directions.
Soap and hot water are added and then the wool is agitated to make
the fibers mat together.
Felting needles have barbs which help make the scales
on the wool grab together and form felt. Needle felting can
be used to make both flat felt and sculptures.
